How to Fix Common Bathroom Sink Drain Issues

These are some of the most frequent problems with bathroom sink drains and some simple solutions:

Clogged Drain –This is normally due either to hair, soap scum, or debris.

Slow Drainage – This is usually caused by the clogging of the drain or pipes partially.

Unpleasant Odors – Other factors that lead to this are trapped debris, bacteria or stagnant water in the P-trap.

Dirty or Blocked Pop-Up Stopper – Collects hair and dirt, which limits the flow of water.

Clogged P-Trap – P-Trap is the U-shaped pipe connected under the sink which traps any blockage and small items.

Deeper Pipe Blockages –Drain snake or plumber service will be needed.

Minor Buildup – May be removed using an addition of boiling water or a baking soda and vinegar flush.

Recurring Clogs –  It can be a sign of a larger plumbing problem that needs to be checked.

In prevention, the stopper should be cleaned frequently, a drain strainer used, and weekly flushing with hot water.
